On December 30, 1970, the Grumman F-14 Tomcat prototype (serial number 157980) crashed in the Otis Pike Preserve, Long Island (40.917°N, 72.728°W) after a hydraulic failure during its second test flight. Start at DEC parking spot 21, off County Road 104 (Mill Rd), Manorville (40.880°N, 72.680°W). The hike is approximately 800 feet one-way to the crash site, taking 15-20 minutes round-trip. Follow the High Point Trail, then an unmarked connector path. The terrain includes pines, oaks, and thorny undergrowth; wear long pants and sturdy boots. Use a compass or GPS for navigation.

The crash site has charred soil and aluminum fragments. A small, curved piece of fuselage, about key-fob-sized, was found under pine needles.
